Laboratories
LABORATORIES

The Department has well developed laboratories with latest equipment. The laboratories include Electrical machines lab, Power system lab, circuit lab and network lab, control system lab, power electronics, measurements and simulation (computer) Lab. The electronics lab are provided by ECE department.

Networks (Electric Circuits) Lab
This lab is well provided with different equipment like Cathode Ray Oscilloscopes (CRO), Digital and Analog meters of a wide range and static electric equipment. This lab gives practical observation of the different characteristics of electrical/ electronic elements when connected differently. This gives a good foundation on electrical and electronic components to the students in the initial years.

Electrical Machines Lab
The college has a well-provided electrical machines lab. The equipment provides an opportunity to the students to connect and operate the machines with their own hands. Also they will observe and understand the characteristics of different types of electrical machines. This helps them to have a comprehensive picture of utilization of electric power in different industries.

Electrical Measurements Lab
This lab comprises of phase shifting transformers, reactive load and various other equipment used for calibration and measurement of electrical quantities. This laboratory is equipped with all electrical bridge circuits like Kelvin’s Double Bridge, Anderson’s bridge, Schering Bridge to facilitate the measurement of unknown values of elements like resistor, capacitor and inductor. Errors in electrical measuring instruments can also be found. We can also find real and reactive power of unbalanced loads.

Control Systems Lab
In this lab students undergo practical training using MATLAB over various physical systems/ transfer functions, stability analysis is done using Bode Plot and Root Locus Techniques. Other equipment like AC Servomotors, DC Servomotors and Synchros are being utilized to observe the parameters physically. The demonstration kit to study control of AC load current having an electrical isolation with DC current (magnetic amplifier) is also available. Various circuits for compensations were designed and then included to the plant for obtaining stability. A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is available to stimulate real time control with 12 inputs and 20 outputs. It is of Allen Bradley Micro logic 1000 PLC with eight demonstrations to understand the very purpose of PLC.

Power Electronics Lab
This lab is specially designed and developed for the students to observe the true nature and characteristics of various power semiconductor devices available in the market till date. Without knowing the application of these devices the students will remain as theoreticians. So we designed some circuits, which cover all the types of applications such as rectifiers, inverters, choppers, and cycloconverters. So at the end of the semester the student will get equipped to handle any power semi-conductor device and any power electronic circuit. We also encourage students to take up projects and mini projects by providing them the required components and kits.

Simulation of Electrical Systems Lab
The lab is equipped with electrical system simulation softwares like MATLAB/SIMULINK, PSPICE, PSCAD. In MATLAB, various tool boxes like power system toolbox, Artificial Neural Networks tool box, Fuzzy Logic tool box and Control Systems toolbox etc., are available. With help of these softwares a complex electrical system can be analyzed for optimization in a cost effective manner.
