IBM Mobility Center

The association of IBM Academic Initiative and SVECW started with the inauguration of IBM Center of Excellence at Shri Vishnu Engineering College For Women on 19th November 2009.

IBM has instituted Software Centre of Excellence (COE) to promote high quality education by providing state-of-the-art and emerging technologies in colleges/ universities with the objective of nurturing highly skilled computer professionals.

IBM Academic Initiative offers a wide range of technology education benefits that can be scaled to meet the goals of most educational institutions, ranging from large research universities to local community colleges.

The IBM COE MOU was signed between Shri Vishnu Engineering College For Women and IBM, the relationship was established to give students and faculty the opportunity to work closely with the industry and utilize both the resources in the best possible manner. IBM Center of Excellence was inaugurated by Himanshu Goyal, IBM Country Manager, in the presence of Sri K.V. Vishnu Raju, Chairman, SVES.

With the emphasis in computing changing towards mobility there was urgency for creating professionals with related skills and preparedness levels. Identifying  that the peak demand will be in the years 2014-15 IBM has proactively initiated a new concept with the title “IBM Mobility Center of Excellence”. Smt. Malati Srinivasan, Country Manager, Academic Initiative, IBM India Pvt Ltd inaugurated the First IBM Mobility Center of Excellence (Mobility Lab) in the college which is the first of its kind in educational institutions across India.

Objective of IBM Mobility Center of Excellence:

The objective of the program is to identify handful colleges/universities that have the acumen to assimilate and appreciate new technologies. IBM would work together with these educational institutions to take benefits of Mobility study to them.  The learning would entail mobile Apps development using WebSphere Portal, Worklight container thus enabling them for web, mobile web and hybrid mobile applications.

Stakeholders:

The stakeholders for this initiative are

  • Academia: Students, Faculty & College Management
  • Industry: Independent Software Vendors (ISV), System Integrators  (SI)
  • IBM: Software Group, Software Labs, Software Services and HR

These 3 will work together in establishing and maintaining Mobility Lab in colleges, success depends on collaborative work of stakeholders.
